The true story of my life
My name is Vellayan Mohan. I was born in 1974 in Sithandi to Vellayan- Sinnamma couple. My birthplace was Sithandi and I lived in Akkaraipatru with my three brothers. We lived in a small hut in Akkaraipatru West, 40th mile post near the sea side. I was born in a poor family and I faced many hardship to study. I studied at Akkaraipatru Sinhala vidyalaya. My house was destroyed in the violence in 1990. We stayed in a camp. Many lives were lost by the atrocities committed by the army. My father couldn’t send us outside, he made mats and looked after us. The army came and checked the camp and beat us often. We couldn’t continue our studies with this hardship. My brothers dropped out and went to work as labourers. When the problems subsided we went to our own place. We didn’t have a place to live and built one with palm leaves. I went to Ramakrishna school with the help of my brother. My brothers married when their situation became good. I married Perambalam Renuka in 1996. I started a taylor shop but the army damaged it completely when there was a problem. My wife and I suffered a lot without food and clothes. I went to a job in Colombo. I worked there for a while and came back to my village Sammanthurai. My wife and her three sisters, a brother lived together as a joint family. My father died of illness. We look after our mother. My father-in-law was lost during the violence in 1990. He was also from a poor family. I married without any dowry and built a house. I live with my wife and three daughters very happily.

எனது பெயர் வௌ்ளையன் மோகன். நான் 1974ம் ஆண்டு சித்தாண்டியில் வௌ்ளையன் சின்னம்மா தம்பதியினருக்கு மகனாகப் பிறந்தேன். சித்தாண்டியைப் பிறப்பிடமாகவும் அக்கரைப்பற்றை வசிப்பிடமாகவும் கொண்ட எனக்கு மூன்று சகோதரர்கள். நாங்கள் அக்கரைப்பற்று நாற்பதாம் கட்டை என்ற இடத்தில் கடற்கரை ஓரத்தில் சிறிய குடிசையில் வாழ்ந்து வந்தோம். மிகவும் வறுமையான குடும்பதைச் சேர்ந்த நான் படிப்பதற்கு மிகவும் கஸ்ரப்பட்டேன். இவ்வாறு இருக்கும் போது அக்கரைப்பற்று சிங்கள மகா வித்தியாலயத்தில் எனது கல்வியைத் தொடர்ந்து கற்றுவந்தேன். 1990ம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்ற வன்செயலின் போது எங்கள் வீடுமுற்றாக சேதமாக்கப்பட்டது. நாங்கள் முகாமில் தங்கியிருந்தோம். ராணுவத்தினரின் கொடுமையினால் பல உயிர்கள் பறிக்கப்பட்டன. எங்களை வெளியில் அனுப்ப முடியாத எனது தந்தை பாய் விற்று எங்களைக் காப்பாற்றினார். அடிக்கடி இராணுவத்தினர் முகாமை சோதனையிட்டு எங்களை அடித்து துன்புறுத்தினர். இத்தனை கஸ்டத்தின் மத்தியில் வாழ்ந்த எங்களால் தொடர்ந்து கல்வியை கற்க முடியாது போனது எனது சகோதரர்கள் இடையில் படிப்பை நிறுத்தி விட்டு கூலி வேலை செய்தனர். பிரச்சினை ஓரளவு முடிந்தவுடன் நாங்கள் மீண்டும் சொந்த இடங்களுக்கு திரும்பினோம். இருப்பதற்கு வீடு இன்றி பனை ஓலையினால் குடிசை அமைத்து வசித்து வந்தோம். எனது சகோதரர்களின் உதவியுடன் நான் மீண்டும் ராமகிருஷ்ணா கல்லூரியில் கல்வியினைத் தொடர்ந்தேன். பின்னர் படிப்படியாக ஓரளவு நல்ல நிலைமைக்குவந்த பிறகு எனது சகோதரங்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் திருமணம் முடித்துவிட்டார்கள். இவ்வாறு இருக்கும் வேளையில் 1996ம் ஆண்டு பேரம்பலம் ரேணுகா என்பவரைத் திருமணம் செய்தேன். நான் தனியாக ரெயிலர் கடை ஒன்றை நடாத்தி வந்தேன். இடையில் ஏற்பட்ட பிரச்சினை காரணமாக இராணுவத்தினர் எனதுகடையினை முற்றாக சேதமாக்கினார்கள். நானும் எனது மனையிவும் மிகவும் கஸ்ரப்பட்டோம். உண்பதற்கு உணவின்றி உடையின்றி தவித்தோம். மீண்டும் நான் கொழும்பிற்குவேலைக்குச் சென்றேன். அங்கு சிறது காலம் வாழ்ந்து மீண்டும் சம்மாந்துறைக் கிராமத்திற்கு வந்தேன். சம்மாந்துறையில் எனது மனைவியுடன் அரவது சகோதரிகள் மூன்று பேரும் சகோதரர் ஒருவரும் கூட்டுக் குடும்பமாக வாழ்ந்துவந்தோம். சிறிது காலத்தின் பின்னர்எனது தந்தையர் நோயினால் பீடிக்கப்பட்டு மரணமடைந்து விட்டார். அவரும் மிகவும் வறிய குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். சீதனம் எதுவும் இன்றி திருமணம் செய்து சொந்தமாக வீடு கட்டி எனது மனைவியுடனும் எனது மூன்று பிள்ளைகளுடனும் மிகவும் சந்தோசமாக வாழ்ந்து வருகின்றேன்.
