A long time ago, a Saint from Prophet Mohammed’s clan had come to Kooragala. After he preached, he then came here and passed away. We became Muslims after that, about 300 years ago. His tomb is in the mosque [Godapitiya]. At that time, we were Sinhalese from the Kasturiarachchi family. Marikkar means Arachchi. The old Arachchis became Marikkars.I’m 90 now.
