In the distant past, people travelled by bullock cart. When travelling by cart, only pregnant women and children travelled inside the cart. The others would travel by foot, along with the cart. From Beliwatte to Katharagama, it took two full days of travel by cart. They would put out reed-mats under the trees at sleep at night. The cart would have 4 bulls. The cart would be 10 feet long and 6 feet wide. The bulls are treated well, and spoken to like they are humans.
අතීතයේ දී ගමන් කරේ කරත්ත මගිනි. එම කරත්තයේ ගමන් කරන්නේ ගැබිණි කාන්තාවන් සහ කුඩා ළමුන් පමණයි. ඔවුන් සමග එන අනිත් අය පයින් ගමන් කරයි. බෙලිවත්තේ සිට කතරගම ට යාමට දින දෙකක් පමණ ගත වේ. ඔවුන් ගිමන් හරින්නේ මාර ගසක් යට පැදුරක් දමා නිදා ගෙනය. එක කරත්තයකට ගොන්නු හතර දෙනෙක් සිටියි. කරත්තය අඩි දහයක් දිග වන අතර අඩි හයක් පළල වේ. ගොනුන්ට කතා කරන්නේ තමාගේ කෙනෙක්ට වැනිය.

குழந்தைகளும் மட்டுமே மாட்டு வண்டியினுள் இருந்து பயணம் செய்தனர். மற்றையோர் நடந்தே வண்டியின் பின் பெலிவத்தயிலிருந்து கதிர்காம் மட்டும் பயணித்தனர். மாட்டு வண்டியில் பயணிப்பதற்கு 2 நாட்கள் முழுமையாக செல்லும் இரவு நேரங்களில் மரத்தின் அடியிலேயே படுத்துறங்குகின்றனர். வண்டியில் 4 மாடுகள் ப10ட்டப்படும். வண்டி 10 அடி நீளமும்ää 6 அடி அகலமும் உள்ளது. மாடுகள் சிறந்த முறையில் பராமரிக்கப்படுவதுடன் மனிதர்களுடன் பேசுவதுபோலேயே அதனுடன் பேசுகின்றனர்.
