I am U.H.Leelani born in Ambagahakoratuwa village in in Naottuna. I was born in June 1955. My father is a Bus conductor and he was born in Naotunna. My mother is Somaseeli Wickramaratna. In 1981 my husband went to Iraq for a job. When he went we did not have a decent house. We lived in a cadjan hut.

After we got married he got a job at Werahera, CTB in 1971. At that time his salary was 210 rupees. The eldest son was born in 1972 and youngest son in 1983.

After that, when the life was passing with lot of difficulties when the children were schooling, first, the elder daughter got a job. Their father brought up the children with earnings as a carpenter. Those days I made coir from coconut husks put in the soaking pits near the sea. I made coir ropes with the children and earned. As the income was not adequate their father went abroad to earn more. After tsunami all coir making and coir rope making work came to a halt. Life became even more difficu

I am very happy to write my life story. Because no one other than these ladies wanted to hear my life story. So far in my life no one wanted to hear my life story I have doubts that no one in the future too will want to listen to my life story.

Another profile of my life is that from 1997 onwards I have formed group societies in my village and joint the organization. I advised the low income families to uplift the good behaviors and conduct and did social work with other women, which is a fact that brought happiness to my life.

I am almost 60 years of age now. My husband also died. So far I had a life mixed with sadness and happiness. Now my children live their family lives serving the country and the society, following their father’s footsteps. Now my wish to live happily with my children and grandchildren, devoted to the religion and as an ideal mother in the society and, to die peacefully.

After that on my mother’s advice we lived in the land called Kandewatta having built a small house covered with cadjans. It was a isolated forested land with only our house. At that time when my husband was aboard and I was living with my children I had an unforgettable experience. We had only a small radio as a valuable item in our house. A thief came in to the house to steel the radio. I work up and screamed. My son too screamed. Thief could not take the radio. We has such a difficult times.

While the life went on, on 26th of December 2014 while we were engaged in house work my younger daughter looking at the sea, shouted saying “mother come, something is happening to the sea” I scolded her “what can happen to the sea” and when I looked at the sea I saw a very cruel sea coming in to the land felling all trees and inundating the entire area with water. I knew it is a disaster. I wanted find out the whereabouts of other members of the family and shouted calling them. My husband came
