I was born in Sammanturai. There are 11 children in our family and I am the eldest. We are a poor family. It was very difficult for our father to look after us alone. There were 04 girls and 05 boys in our family. My father died at the age of 32. The entire burden came on to my shoulders.

My eldest daughter got married when she was 23. He built a house for us. My son- in – law was an alcoholic. My daughter came to me after 42 days. Later she divorced from her husband. My daughters father was so upset about this and he was taken ill. After that my husband went abroad.

In the shooting that took place in 1990, 07 got killed. Our house was adjacent to that place and we went to the nearby mosque. Our eldest son was only 31 days old. We took him also. We stayed with our relatives for a short while. For about a period of three months we heard the sounds of gun shots.

My uncle’s son was shot dead in the paddy field. After 06 months 40 men were brutally assassinated in Karaithivu. 04 of them were police officers. They were from our village. We do not know who was responsible for that assassination. One day about 8.00 a.m. I saw a huge crowd coming weeping. This is in coastal area. Tamils and Muslims came like that.
